Clocking in at No. 37 is Swiss sound weaver Sassy J, who channels the ‘music cosmos’ to furnish us with a groovy and tactile selection designed to get our juices properly flowing.
Hello Sassy J, first of all thanks for your contribution! How’s it going and what have you been up to lately?
We’ve just announced my Tape for Altered Soul Experiment. Very excited about this. It’s been a lot of work and it’s ready for pre-order. Alex Attias and myself just released a collaboration on the Chromatic Universe Vol.2 / Visions Inc. a few weeks ago, in both vinyl and digital. Besides that I’ve been traveling and playing.
On the about section of your website it states that you are ‘always digging for inspiration and for those moments in life that make you go “wow”’. Can you share one such moment recently?
Yesterday I was listening to 4Hero’s “Two Pages” while having breakfast in my kitchen. “Golden Age Of life” started playing and during the part where the choir began singing “Garden Of my Mind”, I looked outside the window to see a bumblebee visiting my flowers. I thought that was beautiful.
To me the mix feels like a groovy and soulful spiritual journey. It’s very calming. Can you tell us something about it?
This mix was inspired by the name of the festival: Strange Sounds From Beyond. One take, strictly vinyl. For me this is a dynamic mix. It is a journey that starts somewhere by the Sepik River and builds up to at least 130 bpm. There are always messages hiding in my journeys – if you listen closely the music will tell you.
The festival is coming up in less than two weeks and we’re thrilled! What else have you got coming up?
I am excited to play at Strange Sounds From Beyond and at plenty of other upcoming gigs this summer. Plus some other exciting projects I can’t t talk about right now… but soon!
Thanks, Sassy J!
Sassy J will be performing at Strange Sounds From Beyond 2019 on Saturday, June 22. Tickets are available here.
