In everyday life Shane Burmania has the grateful task as event programmer for The Rest is Noise, a concert series for the weird and wonderful in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. He also curates programs in contemporary music for the Korzo Theatre in The Hague. Shane has a soft spot for any music with hints of cosmic, futuristic and transcendental sounds. Who’s that slightly-built man performing on the main stage of this new Amsterdam-based festival? It’s clear that a festival appearance isn’t a routine gig for him. In a way he symbolizes the success of SSFB’s first edition – the festival capable of drawing a curious crowd to a main stage, led by a mystery man from Ghana that goes by the name of Ata Kak.
To kick off our new Mix Series in fashion, here is Vladimir Ivkovic – longtime resident at the infamous Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf and the man behind Offen Music, a label specialized in authentic subjectivism. We had a talk with one of the finest selectors of hidden musical gems out there.
When one looks at his LP covers and listens to the great variety of productions, it is quite surprising to read a – clearly Dutch – name like Jasper van ’t Hof. Ranging from fusion jazz to ambient electronics and tribal house music, the Dutch composer has an interesting discography worth checking out.
